Major research programs

Safran takes an active role in many of today’s leading Research & Technology programs, while fostering greater synergies across the Group.

(c) DR Safran is heavily involved in a number of major European aerospace research programs. For example, Vital, an advanced engine technology research program, led by Snecma, which was part of the European Commission’s 6th R&D Framework Program; DREAM (Validation of Radical Engine Architecture Systems), part of the 7th Framework Program, and MOET (More Open Electrical Technologies), dedicated to enabling technologies for “more electric” aircraft. The advances generated by these programs will be evaluated by technology demonstrators developed through the vast new European Commission research program, Clean Sky.

Safran also played a pivotal role in setting up key research programs in France, and was one of the first major French enterprises to carry out part of its research in partnership with public laboratories. We are an active member in several domestic competitiveness clusters, including Aerospace Valley, Astech Paris Region and System@tic, which bring together players from the public and private sectors.

In-house, Safran is organized to facilitate interactions between its different entities, generating synergies by creating centers of expertise.
